Laura San Giacomo
San Giacomo's debut appearance on television were in four episodes on three shows on television in 1987. Two of the most memorable appearances were in Crime Story in 1988 for the episode "Protected Witness" (Season 2 Episode 13) as Theresa Fassino, and in Miami Vice in 1989 for the episode "Leap of Faith" (Season 5 Episode 21) as Tania Lewis. One year prior to the couple's wedding, Cameron Dye, her soon-to-be husband, made a guest appearance on the Miami Vice episode. She previously appeared on All My Children, playing the role of Louisa Sanchez, a Latina common-law wife of Mitch Beck, (Brian Fitzpatrick). Her presence was threatening to sever his relationship with Hillary Martin (Carmen Thomas). However, San Giacomo was first acknowledged for her acting in Steven S. Soderbergh's Sex, Lies and Videotape (1989). The film marks her debut as an actor with credit (her part in the role of Sandy in the 1988 movie Miles from Home was not credited). "Sandy"'s work in the film won her the Golden Globe Award, and she was awarded the Los Angeles Film Critics Association New Generation Award. The Cannes Film Festival's most prestigious Grand Prize (the Palme d'Or) was presented to the film. The film was a blockbuster and grossed $178 million. In the Stephen King TV miniseries The Stand, she played Nadine Cross opposite Rob Lowe. They were included on the cover of TV Guide's May 7-13 1994 issue. The actress continued making films and by 1999, she was done.
