Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won accolades for her work. She is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a website to educate women about their roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her primary goals. In addition, Sarkeesian discusses issues of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities which have been excluded. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. She had a plan to launch an internet series that examined gender representation in games, but was the target of an online harassment campaign. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
