R&B performer whose version of Prince's I Feel for You was hugely popular. I Feel for You by Rufus is thought to be a major success. Rufus is her other band. Khan was raised as a Catholic. She attended her parish of Hyde Park Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in her primary school. She attributed her love of music to her grandmother, who brought her into jazz as when she was a young child. Khan began to be a huge fan of blues and rhythm in her teens and when she turned eleven formed a girl group known as the Crystalettes that included the sister Taka. Khan was a member of in the Black Panther Party in 1967 after becoming friends with Chicago-born activist Fred Hampton, a member of the Black Panther Party. Although many claim that Khan was named Chaka at the time she joined the Panthers but she says her name was given by Yoruba Baba gave her the name Chaka Adunne Aduffe Karifi at the age of 13. In 1969, she was kicked out of the school. She had attended Calumet High School as well as Kenwood High School. In the Chicago region, she began playing in small bands.
